Description
Landing is a compilation of personal narrative and reflective essays about breaking up and rediscovering what you want from love. The writing is organized into five sections: Leaving, reflections on ending my relationship of eight years; Yearning, reflections on what I want from love in the future; Advising, advice for others considering or going through breakups; Growing, reflections on a turning point after reconnecting with my ex; and Landing, an epilogue about coming down to earth.
I spent eight years sharing my life with a beautiful man, J. I am fortunate I was able to spend my 20s with him. Love can be long-term and stable and still come to a natural endpoint. We parted ways in January 2023, agreeing mutually that our story together had finished. A break up is as long as the relationship; the ending comes with the beginning. I think of it like the human life; from the moment we are born we begin to die. Various parts of our love developed and grew, reached a peak, and gradually declined. We reached a point where we decided to celebrate the life we built together by letting it dissolve into memory. In Landing, I share reflections on my breakup.
